"Sleepwalker" painting process
Preliminary stages of new work showing my under drawing and line work. I have blocked in the rough under drawing using charcoal as well as graphite and white chalk in places. This painting was featured on Channel 4's House of the Year 2013 in Grand designs TV show hosted by Kevin McCloud.
Using charcoal after roughing in the main drawing I will then continue to paint the ground work in and plan on completing this painting using "The Zorn Palette" which consists of 4 colours Cadmium red, Ivory black, White and Yellow Ochre.
THE BEGINNINGS OF NEW DRAWINGS
This is how I start my work by approaching a new sketch. On the left you can see an image showing the rough lining and blocking in of pencil/graphite measuring up point against point from parts of the face against each other. Hopefully if I start with a good and accurate beginning the rest falls into place and I manage to get a finished sketch or drawing that produces a likeness.
